I think the harshest sounding languages are German, Cantonese Chinese, and also English.
As for "nice" languages, I think Russian is the most soothing and beautiful language. Swahili and Bahasa Indonesia (Indonesian) sound happy. Japanese is also nice and soothing.
I think many people think Italian, French, and Spanish sound nice because they are the most common languages to hear. For Americans, it's common to hear Spanish, but most do not know what Swahili sounds like. Also, I think because of Americans origins and connections to Europe, West European languages are connected with a certain sense of prestige and sophistication. For non-European languages, people just don't have enough exposure and assume they don't like them. Like when people say "ching chong" is Chinese, or how they say the Chinese and Japanese are the same. It's probably political too. People saying they don't like Arabic because they associate it with the terrorists, Chinese with Communist China, etc.

My language, English. I can't understand other languages. It's like an alien intelligence invented them. BQ: No offense, but the German language sounds most unpleasant to me.

try speaking German softly :)
speaking seriously, French phonetic rules have been tweaked to make the language sound nice (e.g. by alternating consonants and vowels)

I personally cannot stand people speaking hindu Indian. I find it annoying and harsh and even more so when they attempt to speak english. Their accent is too heavy making it difficult to understand them.
French probably the nicest sounding but they tend to be arrogant for reasons beyond me, it kind of takes the appeal away.
