I need to know how to say some specific things in Spanish...
"She became an actress."
"In 1942, Argentina was home to 15,250,000 people."
"Catholic holidays are celebrated."
If anyone can translate just these sentances, that'd be awesome. Thank you!

I have been studying Spanish for a few years, and I know that somewhere along the way I saw the form "estar (conjugated) + a + infinitivo" as an additional way to describe progressive actions. For example:

Estoy comiendo.
Estoy a comer.

Is this correct? Is it only seen in writing, or do people say this in spoken Spanish as well?

Because I know that even though Icelandic is related, it is a bit different from Danish, Swedish and Norwegian. How well can the speakers of those 3 languages understand Icelandic?
