Okay Christmas is Jesus' Birthday right? Where the heck did the Christmas tree tradition come from?

Do you ask others to not bother, or to at least keep the gift small (in value)? Personally, between the practice of putting Christmas merchandise in stores before Halloween and the substitution of "Happy Holidays" and "Season's Greetings" for less politically-correct terms, I've pretty much decided to back off and give the retailers a pass.

How about you?

I do. My Grandparents. They don't believe in Christmas. They say:"That's not really when Christ was born.No one knows when he was born. It's a myth." That's why they don't believe in Christmas.

Living in a predominantly Muslim society, I don't consider Christmas (by this I mean Santa) to be commercialized over the roof, however in other parts of the world, it may seem to be over-exploited. Many people say that Christmas now is an over-the-top holiday frenzie, which is arguably true.

Many people also say that Christmas is about giving and not receiving (just like Santa). This is sweet, really, and I really don't want to offend anyone, but I think this kind of misses the spot. Though giving is a virtue, the meaning is the birth of Christ.

I do acknowledge that Christmas and Easter we know today may have been somewhat influenced/derived from pagan traditions. But I wouldn't say that Christmas and Easter are pagan celebrations, since commemorations of the birth and resurrection of Christ (the ACTUAL Christmas and Easter) must've gone on (however subtle) ever since His resurrection. I do think that the cultures had assimilated with the celebration of winter and fertility.

Personally, I'm of the 'everything in it's place and maximum two colours' (usually red and silver) school of thought.

Growing up, there was never a formal Christmas Eve dinner and I wanted some ideas as to what to cook. I know that traditional dishes are fish. I was going to make mussells in marinara and crab legs. What are some other dishes I can put together?

Any one who has funny story like this :
My friend (not me ok?) and her husband got in the bus for their trip for the day. As they got in, the driver asked, SINGLE? then my friend replied and said, NO, we're married. (if you didn't understand what the driver means, then you live in a country where it is different) The driver was asking my friend if she's paying only for a one-way ticket. And she thinks the driver was asking if she's single ( I think it's funny, we were laughing when she told us this)
