I want to buy something for my wife from Victoria's Secret for Christmas. However, it seems that whenever I buy her clothes we inevitably have to take it back to the store to get the right size. So, would it be ok to buy her a gift card to V.S. and then let her pick out what she wants or should I buy her something knowing that it will probably mean going back for an exchange. Any ideas?

Up on the Housetop" contains a reference to Santa bringing several toys that would not pass muster with child-safety watchdog groups. Which of the following gifts is NOT mentioned in the song?

I was in a Joann Fabric store today, and all the Christmas merchandise was 50% off, and they were putting out Valentine day stuff. Too early?

I mean look at the lard on that dude. Can you imagine him in a speedo? What kind of an example to young children is that? Quit leaving him those plates of cookies. What do you think?

I have often asked myself that question. Like, what's wrong with believing in a Jesus who may or may not have been born of a Virgin mother? There are many other great things about Jesus too, aren’t there?

I'm not slamming Christians for what they believe.

I'm not going to hand out quotes or 'evidence'. All I'll say is that the Bible has, through the centuries/ millennia been expertly edited in different ways, to suit the beliefs of the editors. One of the big things that could have been edited was the Virgin Birth, as well as prophesies of it. I'm just saying, 'could have'.

More importantly, I'd like to know if Christianity and Christmas would be any different had there been no Virgin Birth. Thanks.

It seems to me that every single toy these particular kids (aged around 5-7) have plugs in, needs batteries, has microchip(s), has headphones, is essentially some form of computer, or makes noise on its own.

My question: is this a one-woman campaign (me), or are other parents/grandparents fed up with toys that play themselves?

Thanks for your input, and I hope I'm not nuts.

I'm pagan and I feel as thouhg it is a slap in the face of those who hold christmas as a Christian holiday. I wish hollywood would get some class back.

Where did these come from? The ability to slide down (and up - creepy!) chimneys! Let's not forget the ability to be omnipresent (pun intended!) and to an extent, omniscient.

His association with magical animals and beings. Flying reindeer; elves etc.

The sex symbol. Old Santa is often associated with a nymphet who also wears a Santa outfit (what's her name?). At other times, he ravishes wives if they should be up on Christmas Eve.

Doesn't Santa more closely resemble some ancient deity or some other mythical being with his merry-making, wine and women etc?

Note: I’m not here to dampen Christmas. Christmas time can be special. The real St. Nicholas was a good person. I’d just like to get some info on the 'other' aspects of Santa, if you have some good info.
