Well one Christmas, Santa was having a terrible time. His lead reinder was sick, it was blizzarding outside, Mrs. Clause was mad at him, he couldn't find his coat, and the elves were talking about striking. Right when Santa was about to sit down to eat dinner, a little angel came in dragging a christmas tree, accidentally knocked into the table and Santa's soup spilled all over his lap. Oblivious to what had just happened, the angel cheerfully asked Santa where she should stick the christmas tree, and Santa told her where to stick it.

Stars are nice.

I had always put my beautiful angel on top of my tree. That is, until my son came along and a couple years ago insisted that we get a STAR. So, we did and that's what we've used ever since and it's quite beautiful. Another idea is something my sister does. She buys the big roll of 3-inch wide ribbon at SamsClub or Costco and has someone make a big bow for her for the top and then has a few streamers of that ribbons cascading down the tree. You can get an angel or star pretty reasonable at WalMart if you decide that's what you want. Merry Christmas!

I have a few Christmas trees in my house. On one I have an angel, on another I have a big gold bow that I made. The ribbon even falls down around the length of the tree (It gives a dramatic and whimsical effect)! And on another tree I have an antique Christmas star. But my neighbor does something which is the most adorable thing. Her and her kids make and bake a huge gingerbread star. Then they all decorate it with icing and different sprinkles and things. And attach it to the top of the tree. Then on Christmas day the kids get to all eat a piece of it. Its a great tradition for them. Happy Holidays!

I have an angel on the top of my tree.

If you don't want to shell out the money for a tree topper, try some homemade crafts (Buying one right now is way to expensive). Maybe a favorite stuffed animal turned into a puppet. That way, you can easily slide it onto the tree. Or with a little ribbon and glitter, you can decorate a large, open pine cone and tie it up with some wire (good project for kids). Or you could get some fancy ribbon and tie a pretty bow at the top. Or maybe you could find some stiff, thick paper and cut out a star or snowflake. Punch some holes into the bottom and tie it with wire to the tree.

I love thinking up ways to make things...I hope this helps!

The traditional star is the best thing to go with. This ornament will symbolize the star the Shepard's followed to baby Jesus, laying in the manger. A star on the top of my tree is inexpensive, and beautiful.

We have this really cool, really beautiful, really old painted ceramic cherub angel - like from the cistine chapel - It's just the head and wings and a ceramic cone to slide onto the top branch. My sister always thought it was scary looking, but I loved it as a kid and still love it as an adult. If we left it to my sister, she'd have a multi-colored light up plastic star.

You can put anything you want on the top of your tree. Use your imagination. When we didn't have anything, we made a star out of cardboard and foil. Looked OK and the kids had fun making it.
