It seems to me that every single toy these particular kids (aged around 5-7) have plugs in, needs batteries, has microchip(s), has headphones, is essentially some form of computer, or makes noise on its own.

My question: is this a one-woman campaign (me), or are other parents/grandparents fed up with toys that play themselves?

Thanks for your input, and I hope I'm not nuts.

You aren't. I admire you. Also, all these games do is teach a child that there is no one else important in this world. Do you remember when we could play a boardgame as a family and sit together, laughing and enjoying eachother's company? This isn't those times. If more people got together and played together instead of going off on our own and playing World of Warcraft or PS3 or Wii, we would all be in a much better place and really appreciate what we have had all along: a family. I miss those times...

you are not nuts!
but to deprive children from using computers can be!
however my own father doesnt like the internet because it is to close to the world of babylone and the biblical BEAST.
He likes cable, and only computers can give us cable.
he likes electricity and doesnt use a wood furnace and computers help regulate usage.
He likes to drive a car and the car we drive has computer chips.
Only God can say when the division between learning a computer and whent it becomes serving the antichrist are defined clearly. but DvDs and Movies are made with computers too. therefore Use the gifts we have for good! To enjoy when we are finished with labors and with our chores.
sometimes with bribes
and sometimes with punishment when taking away privileges.

but a cell phone can be used for communicating with your kids later on in life, its better than yelling out the front door hoping theyre within two blocks to hear you yell. its a computer too. Maybe someday God will show us how to use telepathy?

I say good old fashion toys, games and books would be good.
Remember Lincoln Logs and Blocks?

Mouse Trap is a cool game!

How about games like "Sorry" or "Trouble"?

I always thought Pop-Up books were fun. Even as an adult, I still collect them.

My son, now 18, still collects Hot Wheels and Match Box cars.

Have fun shopping for those good old fashion toys that never go out of style!

They are indeed nerve-racking. But some of them are actually good with learning things. I only buy my kids things that they can learn from. Right now the only electric toys they are getting are the ones that teach you the ABC's and 123's. (My son is 3)
He loves it when we get together and play. :)
There are also toys that teach Spanish! Which is pretty cool.

I agreed with you, with technology today kids just sit front of a Monitor. I really think is one of reason for child being obese today.
Maybe I am getting old, when I was kid I was happy with something I could play outside like a kite, airplane or football. Something to keep me active

No, you're not nuts but I don't have any problem giving anyone anything that has plug ins, batteries, etc., etc.
