Probably just a response to the horrible sales this Christmas season.
And in a fabric store, most of the hardcore customers (sewers/crafters) have been done with their Christmas projects for a while and are ready, and need the time, to complete the next holiday's projects.
As I feel like the grinch this Christmas, good, maybe I'll swing by there tomorrow for a non-Christmas shopping experience.

its a fabric store...thats probably why. with just a week or so left before christmas, most people who are going to use fabric to make something have already got it. they put the valentines stuff out so once christmas has passed, the stuff is available for the next holiday. I dont understand why people get so worked up about when stores put out stuff for which holiday. just because its out doesnt mean you have to start buying it. relax and enjoy the holiday. if its too early for you to think about valentines day then dont. not everyone celebrates christmas either.

It seems to me that each holiday is being rushed on top of the last. Christmas stuff has been in the stores since way before school started. I don't know if it is really getting earlier and earlier or if it is yet another aspect of aging that I even notice this!

I work for Michaels. Lots of our christmas stuff is also 50 off. And we're fast running out of it. Christmas stuff is getting very sparse.
We got our first spring truck this week with some spring stems on it.
That's just how it is in retail.

As one who shops extremely late in the game - yes they are.
As one who needs to get going on said shopping - thanks for the heads up.
