Christmas - December 2006

[Selected]: All categories Society & Culture Holidays Christmas

Ok to start off I am 20 years old gonna be 21 soon and my 1st cousins are all like 10-20 years older than me and they have teenage children ranging from 9-16 years in age. My cousins are well off being dentists, financial consultants, and owning their own businesses. When I go to there house I see there children always wearing something new and expensive and getting all of these expensive gifts like coach bags, juicy couture bags and slippers, (they must have about 20 of there own from the coach store each) ugg boots, abercrombie clothes, and american eagle to name a few. I always go there happy with what I got from my family for christmas because I know my family does not have enough money to buy me those kinds of things but, when I see them with all of their name brand stuff it kinda makes me depressed and I almost feel like I wanna spend all the money I have a buy what they have gotten. Like tomorrow I wanna go shopping and get a coach bag.

Having celebrated christmas for over 25 years, i do not understand how santa comes into the equation of christmas. OK- we have jesus's supposed birthday even though this is not reliable - cos in the 60s they celebrated xmas on 15th November. And even today people celebrate it on different dates. I believe Santa was vreated by corporations wanting to exploit the christmas spirit and they have done this well

Me and my family are just staying home doing nothing.
Its about dinner time, but I want to do something fun, because all we did is open presents.Doesn't really quite get me in the christmas feeling. Are there any places like those town thingys where you go to shop and do christmas-y stuff in LA?

Yeap, I'm a Christmas baby. Actually, mine was yesterday, the 24th., but close enough to know it still sucks.

Tell us why it sucks having your B-Day next to ANY holiday. I'm I alone in feeling this way.
Nobody wished me a Happy Birthday till some of my sisters Christian friends decided to break out a birthday cake for Jesus today, then someone said 'Maybe we can fit Gloo's name down there at the bottom of it'...That and the whole "This gift is for X-Mas AND your birthday" crapola.

Best story gets the 10 points..

Whenever you see a Nativity scene, the wisemen are always shown to be present as well. This does not agree with the Bible. The star that appeared at the birth of Christ guided the Maji to where the CHILD was, not 'baby'. The shepherds saw the baby in the stable, but the Maji showed up later. The second chapter of Luke talks about the birth of Jesus, but the Magi are not mentioned. You find them in the second chapter of Matthew where it states the star was over the HOUSE, not stable, "they saw the CHILD and his mother. . . " Jesus was approximately two years old when the Magi arrived, which is the reason Herod killed all the boys from birth to two years in age.
