I was never officially told that Santa didn't exist, and I don't really remember my classmates or other kids in the family talking about Santa not being real. One winter right before Christmas, when I was 7 or 8, my brother and I were playing hide-n-seek. I went to my mom's closet to hide and found tons of clothes in bags, including a brand new fancy girls winter coat -- it was completely innocent. At my house, Santa never wrapped our toys and gifts. On Christmas morning, one of my big Santa gifts was that same winter coat. I never told my Mom about that year until I was an adult, didn't want to ruin it for her, and I still loved to play along even into teenage years. I have three kids (16, 14, 5). The older kids don't believe, and I'll never tell them, especially as long as the youngest is into the whole Santa fun -- it was great for her this year!!

I seemed to have always known that there was no real Santa, but kept the gig going with my parents because it meant better presents under the tree. They seemed to get a kick out of me running from my bed at 4:00 a.m. and screaming "Santa! Santa!" I guess they finally figured out what I was doing when I was thirteen and wasn't suprised anymore on Christmas morning like I had been for years. Christmases really changed for me after that. Less expensive toys like bikes and electronic stuff.

I started to doubt his existence at age 7, when I noticed Santa's writing on the gift tags matched my mom's handwriting. But I wasn't completely devastated when I discovered it. And then, I guess I eventually grew out of Santa by the time I turned 10.

I found out when I was five or six or seven. I wrote a letter to Santa and put it under the tree, but in the morning it was unopened. I knew immediately that he wasn't for true; the present I asked from him wasn't there either. I didn't react at all; I didn't believe in Santa that devoutly.

There were four kids in my family. About the time we started questioning Santa's existence, my parents started taking us out on Christmas Eve to look at the Christmas lights. When we got home, Santa had come...so obviously, he had to exist since our parents were with us the whole time. That kept us believing in Santa for a number of years. Those were the days when you could trust a neighbor to come in and lay out presents for you.

I found out when I was 9. I wrote a letter to Santa and put it with the milk and cookies and then in the morning I found out that Santa had written something back so I looked and it was in my dad's handwriting.
