I feel that europeans and americans are more alike than they are willing to believe. and not trying to start anything, but is it a little bit, just a tinge, of jealousy? as much as europeans and some americans want to deny american influence in the the world, it is there, present, alive, and still kicking. I think that some europeans have a hard time accepting that because they don't agree with american policy. what they don't seem to notice is that a lot of american don't either. However that is no reason to be outright rude to someone just because they are american. as much as you want to ignore the american influence, we do set the tone for the rest of the world. a lot of the time, other countries don't act unless they know what direction the US is headed in. I guess if i wasn't an american, i might feel this way too. but sitting where i am now, i have to say it kind of gets old. who knows......maybe americans are just more laid back than europeans

Their homes have no decoration except rugs and cushions and their cities and towns are all sand or white colored. They don't do anything that requires imagination. Does the Koran ban creativity? If it does no wonder they're also cranky.

in america the flag is very stylish. americans aren't trying to shove it in your face that we are american, we're just wearing things that we think look nice. I think this is a classic example of europeans overreacting. They are so busy trying to find fault in americans that they are criticizing everything that we do instead of excepting who we are. all it does is create unnecessary drama. i mean...we're all people

Nature or Nurture? These young kids killing each other with guns. Is it the fault of a failing society or is it just plain bad parenting?

And if society is to blame, then why arn't all the single parents, unemployed, disadvanged low socio economic class's, carrying guns and shooting each other? Why are the vast majority of these people decent, honest and good people who just get on with their lives?

We seem to have a lot of young people who have dsylexia and attention deficit syndromes, When I was at school it was called being naughty? So nature or Nurture?

Just look at yahoo answers. Any time anyone asks a racist question, that person is condemned in over 90% of the answers.

Yahoo answers is a perfect medium for closet racists, so if there were really that many then you'd see it in the answers.

Closet racists appear to be so numerous on the internet because they talk about race more than non-racists. In reality if the non-racists were as obsessed with talking about race, then no-one would talk about the closet racists on the internet because they would be visibly out numbered on forums all over the internet.

Im 18 and im doing my A levels at the moment in Leicestershire. One of the subjects that I choose to do was English Literature. Its now come to that time of the year when our coursework needs to be started and researched. The subject we've been given to do is 'The Gothic'. We've been given set books to read and explore with these being the mainstream types of gothic books like; Frankenstien, Dracula, The Bloody Chamber, Rebecca, The Woman In Black etc...

At this moment, Ive started my coursework and have handed several drafts in to my teacher. One thing that always comes up is that I need to be able to explain what 'Gothic' is and link it with the books, cause at the moment Im apparently 'feature spotting' and not really explaining what their significance is.

So, this morning, I decided to browse the internet to find out what 'Gothic' is/was. So I want to know what YOU think Gothic is.
