Don't get me wrong, I am no fan of Muslim extremists or religion in general, but your information isn't accurate. I suspect you have already made up your mind without knowing any facts, but I will include some info even if it's in vain.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_mathematics
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_astronomy#Mesopotamia
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islamic_art
The area that birthed the mindset that also created Islam is referenced in the above links. Do you want to quibble over semantics?
Furthermore, the history of Islamic art does in fact include visual representations of Muhammad ... the recent controversy among some Muslims is derivative of a lack of education similar to that found in some Westerners about their own history. And some people will always seek something to get mad about.

Are you making this a pissing contest between Islam and Christianity, or Islam and something else? I'm unsure of your purpose here. It's interesting to note that the 3rd century BCE Library of Alexandria was in Egypt, not Jerusalem (or the Kansas Board of Education for that matter):
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Library_of_Alexandria
Few religions period are friendly to individual freedom (makes you wonder why the Communists made atheism the state "religion" since Communism has more in common with theism). Religion appeals to emotion, not reason, and it's emotion that is driving the answers to this question, and the erosion of individual freedom.
Nonetheless, when Europe was undergoing the Inquisition, ironically the Sultans were more tolerant of Jews than were the Catholics. I guess each culture's "dark ages" ebb and flow throughout time.

By the way, who on this thread is your "SON" anyway, James?

I'd say you need to take a real look at the culture which these people exist in. A great many of them are poor, and as such, can't afford more in their homes than "rugs and cushions". If you took some time to look at the jewellery, architecture of their religious and other significant structures, dance, food, and storytelling, you'd find a lot of creativity there.
Go out and meet some muslims. Not the crazy religious fanatic ones, but the normal ones. There are plenty of them out there.

Ok.. you are stupid..
And you have been brainwashed to believe that we aren't creative.. Have u ever been to an Arab country?
I'm guessing, no.. cause if you really had been to an Arab country you would see that Arabs, and Muslims take so much pride in their homes and the decoration etc...
And no, the Quran does not ban creativity... Just go to any Arab country and fill your empty little head with some information..
Peace..

Thanks Ralfcoder, this is an ignorant question and most of the reponses I have read to this point are clearly made by those who have no knowledge of the region or the culture. Its really refreshing to read a comment from someone who has actually read about the topic on some level and is above all the base and ethonocentric thining that pervades our society. The elabotateness of the Arabic script alone suggests that the assertion of a lack of creativity within the culture is beyond ignorant. Espcially considering all of the terms that are standard English that we borrow from them. For all you Christians, many of the pivotal figures you read about in the Bible would be classified as African (Egypt-Misraim or Cush-Ethiopia), Arab (Phoenicia-Lebanon, Chaldea/Babylon-Iraq) and Persian (Iran) had they been around today. Think about that!

Sorry, Muslems did NOT create the higher math. You are mistaken Those are the work of the British and American, German math people. Check your history book SON
Neither did the Muslems excell any any kind of medicine either, those are due to WESTERN Science not that of Muslem countries who are all POOR.
Even the United Nations gives Iran, millions and million in Aid The average income of a person living in Saudia Arabia is equal to tht of one in Mexico.
Something is wrong, what is it I dont know but defenitely someting Creativity has a lot to do with it, but moreso Id say it is just Basic Freedom Individual Freedom which the Muslum nations do not enjoy due to their Religion.

They have. The arab world invented higher mathematics and astronomy when Europe was in the dark ages. Look at some of the artwork inside mosques, and you would be amazed. Right now some of the scenes you see on TV are pretty bleak because the middle east is in it's own version of the dark ages, what with ruthless rulers, tyrannical cultures, religious fanaticism, etc. Once they overcome that, I suspect there will be an artistic blossoming that will be breath-taking.
If they survive the current situation, that is.

WHAT. Where are you getting that. Remember, the muslims collected money in their mosks that funded BinLaden in Afgan country where the terrorists who flew the planes into NY buildings and killed over 3000 people. They took over the airplaines with untility knives.
Id say this is the most creative scheme ever. So give them credit for it. Especially now, since all of those terrorists who drove those planes are now in HEAVEN with about 50 virgins each to enjoy. WOW talk about creativity, they got it.
