... an atheist many years ago, I realized after some time that I am "truly" agnostic. Now, I have recently learned more about ignosticism and believe myself to be classified more precisely as this. It's not that I am going around looking for labels for myself for arbitrary reasons but rather that I enjoy religious debate and would like to concisely state my position as efficiently as possible.

Anyone else consider themselves ignostic?

I have to give credit for this question to Kid Rock, who asks it on a new tape he has issued. He stated in a magazine interview that no one has had the courage to ask this question. Well, he's right, so I will ask it. With horror tales of priests abusing children, with the church authorities covering it up, sending the abuser on to work with other children, should I be afraid? With the Evangelical Christians turning children into radical soldiers, mixing religion with politics in a way that is aggressive and brutal, should I be afraid? With all of this going on, these secret agendas, the payoffs, the abuse, the radical religious politics, should I send my innocent child to church at all, or would it be better to teach him the lessons Jesus left us at home, where he is safe from harm?

He's possibly the most shady political figure with the most power and influence on the world i've ever heard of. He hardly ever knows what he's talking about and couldnt' answer a question properly if his life depended on it. Also, he's part of that skulls and bones secret society... like that isn't at all suspicious.

I'd also love to know why Christians are supporting this war. It's killed hundreds of thousands of innocent people and Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11 WHICH SHOULD BE OBVIOUS BY NOW, if it isn't then... this world has more problems than it's even aware of.

Also, shouldn't the American economy be going UP from all the oil money they are rollin in?

(or, of course, gods)... is that something akin to the notion that objectivity is key to the issue. The most common argument I've seen put forth by agnostics and atheists, for example, is that there exists no empirical evidence of such a being.

Abrahamic theists - in particular Christians - on the other hand cite personal examples of such a being touching their lives. Such claims are sometimes attributed to lunacy by some in the first group. Even the labeling of something as "lunacy," though, necessarily imposes cultural norms on the classification - something that would presumably be looked down upon by objectivists.

My question is this: For those that reject the existence of a personal God on the basis of a lack of empirical evidence, why is your approach to this issue superior?

What if we just all slept with someone of a different faith or belief than our own. Maybe even make some babies and bring them into the world. Wouldn't that be great? We could knock down all the walls of intolerance, injustice and wars that are being fought in the name of religion.

I love my friends and some of my family. But I know them, see them and interact with them.
I don't understand the concept of how one can love God because there is no interaction there. And when I say interaction I am speaking of fond memories, long chats or just hanging out.
Bottom line is don't you need to know someone before you love them?
Or is it the "idea" of God you love.
Please explain.

And by the way please don't tell me the love is automatic as a child loves his/her mother. I myself don't love my mother as I don't know her. She gave birth to me, stuck around for a while and decided she had better things to do. When my dad remarried I "learned" to love my stepmom. I love her dearly, love her like a mother, but it wasn't automatic...I had to get to know her.
