Some people give the nuttiest answers and ask the silliest questions.. It often makes me laugh out loud. Some actually have a good sense of humour about it. Are we having fun yet?

Maybe...

We have created religions and afterlives that embody what we wish the universe was like. We sculpted cosmologies out of our deepest fears and desires. I often trivialize religion when arguing about it, but it is actually the awesome shadow of genuine human longing. I think our religious beliefs mirror what we would would change about the universe if we only had the power...the end of death, pain, and fear, never leaving our loved ones, feeling love to a greater degree....

We have an awesome opportunity, right now, to actually create Heaven. Genetic research could elilminate death! Animals getting old is an evolutionary trait. It allows generations to occur in the same area without overpopulating, and generations are required for evolution (adaptation) to happen. Love is a chemical. We are limited by the need for energy, not by technology. We could feed everyone with nuclear energy--we could move planets. We could create Heaven on the other side of Star Trek

I used to attend this evangelical church where the minister was constantly obsessed with money. Not only would he include tithing in his sermons every single Sunday but he would also make collections for "African missions" "a fellow minister in the hospital" or any other excuse where money could be collected. Meanwhile, when I was unemployed they refused to help me with rent, utilities or food.

The minister and his wife wore designer clothes and lived in a lavish mansion. They would invite other evangelists such as Mike Murdoch and Jesse Duplantis to speak at their church. I doubt these gentlemen would do so for free.

And then the government adds insult to injury in granting these greedy bastards tax-free status.

So what do you think? Are you blind enough to think that this is a legitimate house of worship.... or are you intelligent enough to think that this is a legal racket?

This church is far from unique.

Are they really o.k. with the fact that the 'doctor' is pulling an otherwise viable and healthy infant almost completely out of it's mother except for the head, and then killing it ? (In ways too grotesque to explain here. )

People on this site, and everywhere else, continually bemoan the decline of moral values in the modern world.

So my question is, when (and where) DID society in general have high moral standards?

I want to at least know which century this was supposed to be!

I've read a lot of posts about how the newest middle east war is a sign of the "Christian" apocalypse. But did you know the leader of Iran has a similar belief?

"According to Shi'ites, the 12th imam disappeared as a child in the year 941. The prophecy says when he returns he will reign on earth for seven years, before bringing about a final judgment and the end of the world."

Now that everyone is fighting to bring the end of the world, it might become a self fulfilling prophecy. Obviously though, no lord, mullah, or rabbi will come back for us.

Now does eliminating religion slow the end of the world or hasten it?

Every time I turn around I hear "gay agenda" this and "brainwashing our children" that. I don't know about you guys, but I've got lots of gay friends and as far as I know they have no agenda (other than getting equal rights, which they deserve) and really don't care one way or the other about the sexual orentation of other people's children. It's not like anyone could "make" someone gay anyway.

Why do people seem downright scared of homosexuals? What, exactly, are they afraid gay people are going to do to them? Infect them with the gay virus?

First of all, its not me that wants to commit suicide. Many of you read the details to my last question, many did not, so let me reiterate for a framework to this question, which is a different question entirely. A Christian three nights ago emailed me asking about suicide, he was thinking about it and one source told him suicide results in hell automatically and another told him a different thing, that it doesn't mean hell automatically.
I emailed him Judges 16:29-30; but stated this disturbs me it gives me nightmares and I'm not sure God ever said it was ok to do what Sampson did. The man is alive as of last night he was blogging and offering to pray for other people, so, thats good.

So what is the Biblical position on suicide. I ask so that if this ever happens again to me or any of us, we can know what to say to Christians to encourage them to stay alive.

I was very much freaked out last night that "I was not my brothers keeper" and didn't give good Bible verses.
