depends on the day you are wearing them. If you wear them to work and you are in construction. the pocket is for pens, small tools, paper such as directions on how to do something, a flashlight which has a holder on back like a pen does, a small set of tools in a pouch ect...

The pocket on the front that is open to the side is fr your pocket watch and the hole at the very top is for your chain.
