We have been promoting social enterprises, but I am wondering about the macro-economic policy and framework underpinning it. Does Social Capitalism exist, an are we seeing more and more of it in practice with Warren Buffet and kie. applying their gains to social aims. Or is this just good old grantmaking???

Capitalism is the Mona Lisa, Socialism is the nail that holds it up. Without Capitalism all you have is an ugly nail in the wall.Without Socialism you are left with only a broken work of art on the floor. What does this quote mean? How valid is it? Explain your response.

I think it is due to uneven distribution of resources. Money accumulated only by bill gates is greater than the sum of money possessed by MANY poor countries. Similarly in agricultural countries a lot of land that can be irrigated is not because the owner has just bought it for investment purposes. If that land is given to poor farmer then not only his needs will be fulfilled but that of many others will also be. It is also seen that poor countries due to lack of resources (Money mostly, to buy better technology and chemicals) are unable to produce crops and vegetables up to the potential thus creating shortage. If 25% money of the top 50 richest people is distributed among the top 50 poor countries then the problem of resource deficiency can be reduced to a great extent

(Islam encourages and proposes a system of equal distribution of resources while strictly prohibits population control)

If the economic theory is true that we never ever run out of natural resources, we simply find cheaper ways for extracting/producing them or find cheaper alternatives; after all, the prices of all commodities have been falling over the past 100 years(not sure if this applies to crude oil), doesnt it make more economic sense now to start finding alternatives to using oil?

Responsible for driving the cost of crude oil to the level that the high price of petroleum products has become a factor in limiting the growth of the American economy.

Just think about how much more robust the economy would if the greedy speculators had been limited in how much they could bid the commodity up. Is there a law firm out there that has the guts to file a class action suit. Should the monopolist practices of the oil companies and their distributors be prosecuted under the Sherman Act? No, they're not Oligopilies.

I lived in small towns my whole life, 3K people or less, and moved around a lot which made it hard to make any real connections. Does anyone else think that where you're raised is one of the hardest obstacles in trying to succeed later in life?

If you wouldn't and don't think that anyone else would either, why do we need a minimum wage??? If the pay sucks, people leave jobs. Employers need to compete with each other to hire the help that they want.

It seems to me like minimum wage hurts people more than helps them. Some businesses would hire a 16 year old for $4.00 per hour (and the teen would willingly work there), but they may not be able to afford minimum wage. Therefore, no work for the teen.

Why do we even have minimum wage? Why is it the governments business what I decide to work for? If I think my time is only worth $1 per hour why should the government say it's worth more?

Arn't there some people that aren't worth paying minimum wage?
