What needs does religion serve, what function does it perform, that it is such a ubiquitous feature in human culture? In all its myriad forms and varied (sometimes contradictory) beliefs, why is it found everywhere people are or have been? Is the tendency to religious belief actually a defining characteristic of being a human?

If it were happening to me, I think I'd head home to Montreal and go see all my friends. Have loads 'a sex on E. Make some phone calls; tell people I loved them, even the people I thought I'd never say it to. Hug people for the last time. Have more sex on E. Write, laugh, cry, paint, play the guitar, and talk to people. Shoot up (smack not E), and jump of a sky scraper before I came down [but only because the 48 hour death sentence count down makes suicide seem more permissible and the act itself is guaranteed to put an end to a recurring dream].

What about you?

...I recognize it doesn't always make the cut, but it certainly made my list, and those of several others. So for those of you who answered my "48 hours before you die question earlier," and for anyone else really, why is it that 'lots of sex" tends to make the list quite often? Any insight?

Folks please don't post any rude/offensive comments; wit and humour are welcome, but only answer if you have a genuine response.

No, I'm not talking about nightlife, per se. I'm referring to those social gatherings, whether with family, friends, strangers or all of the above, where we stay up half the night (sometimes all night) talking, telling stories, sharing jokes, recounting personal histories and otherwise communicating. We've all experienced such moments in our lives, surely? It might be when visiting friends or relatives overseas, people you haven't seen in a long time. It could be at someone's house, an after-hours pub, a hostel, a campfire, a hotel lobby, an airport terminal, anywhere humans gather, connect and interact. What is it about the lateness of the hour that triggers such spontaneous and informal exchanges? Or is it because of the surrounding darkness? Could this be a primitive influence? Are we merely continuing an ancient tradition that dates back to early human beings seeking the fireside for comfort and protection in a world wild and untamed? What do you think? Do you have a story to tell?

What, in your opinion, is the best way to combat racism in schools, communities, societies, etc.?

This should be obvious, but please don't answer if you're racist.

Eskimos are not Eskimos. At least, that is not how they call themselves... They call themselves Inuit (so I've heard).
Where does the name Eskimo come from then?
