We didn't evolve from apes but only from ape-like creatures that resembled the modern apes a lot but were smarter and bigger than they are..Its not sure whether they all died out or interbred with higher primates or modern humans... The apes that you see today evolved differently but some time in the past we shared a common ancestor..Furthermore, there are lots of online dating sites like web_date_com that came even earlier, but webdate is still around right? So that's how the analogy might help you out...

This is too complex a matter to reply to with only 500 words, so I'll just say the following:
1. First off, good question! You have shown your willingness to learn about macro-evolution.
2. We did not evolve from apes, but from ape-like creatures.
3. The apes alive today (chimps, gorillas, etc.) are, like us, primates, which means that somewhere deep in our past, we shared a common ape-LIKE, ancestor (we share characteristics with modern apes like five fingers, binocular vision, opposable thumbs, certain dental patterns. etc. which we inherited from an ancestor that has been long extinct).
4. As for the "why" part, that is an intensely philosophical question. Why do any of us exist? What is the purpose of a butterfly or a polar bear? All I can say, is that apes are currently an important part of our ecosystem, and unless the human desire for bushmeat and for cutting down trees in ape habitats forces apes into extinction, we will continue to learn about ourselves by observing how they learn, how they develop cultural characteristics, the rate at which they develop, etc. because we share a great deal of our genetic code and body structure with them.
5. Ape-like, but extinct creatures that may have been human ancestors or may have lived alongside our ancestors include creatures like **** habilis, Australopithecus africanus, Australopithcus afarensis, **** erectus, and Neanderthallensis.
6. Anyone interested in this question might find it fun to read about Gigantopithecus (who may be the source of big foot legends!).
7. Want an easy way to tell the difference between monkeys and apes, on sight? Monkeys have tails, but apes do not.

Yes, we did not evolve from Apes, but from older primates just like Apes. These primates were older than Apes, Monkey and us but all evolved differently. But its easier to understand when we can consider we evolved from Apes. And we share some characteristic with them.

Technically we evolved from an ape-like creature which has died out. The apes that are there now evolved differently

We did not evolved from the apes. Apes and **** sapiens (humankind) are contemporary. There are issues in the field of physical anthropology such as 'humans evolve from the apes' which are subject to debates and argumentation. I guess it is more appropriate to say that they are our biological cousins since genetically speaking chimpanzees (which are primates such as the apes) and humans have 97% similarity of the genes. The 3% difference made a lot of variations. But if you will watch some of the documentaries of Jane Goodall, Birute Galdikas and the other one I forgot (who studied the Orangutan) you will notice that apes and humans are the same in the sense that they also take care of their young ones - child rearing I guess is the right term for that. They also have the sense of territoriality and a lot more. They also have the ability to rationalize as well but incapable in articulating it in such a language as complicated as we do (humans) have. There are still apes obviously because we did not evolved from them, they are our contemporary as I have mentioned above. But mind you their population are becoming endanger right now because of us (humans).

We didn't evolve from apes. We evolved from other species of humans that were similar to apes but could walk bi-pedally and had slightly larger brains and better tool using abilities.

wow.. there are some incredibly dildo infested questions today.
What is it.. INTERNATIONAL DRONGO DAY????
We didn't evlove from apes..... GOD MADE US!!! LOL....
No.. actually.. The apes evolved from the religous nuts, and we spiritually free people evolved from the apes...
It was just a stroke of bad luck that the god squadders look like us superior beings...but lucky for them as it's hard to tell one from the other until they open their mouths and then ingnorant dumb garbage comes out whilst they build guns to kill each other in the name of peace..
They also go out killing apes and other creatures, stuffing them and sticking them on walls..
VIVA EVOLUTION!!!!! >>>> LOL

We share a common ancestor with apes, but we are not directly descended from the apes themselves.
