Ugh! Most of these answers are so ridiculous! Do you people just give answers that you think ought to be true? Geez, get out from in front of the computer and look around you!
I'd argue that rape is probably acceptable to some extent in most societies, including in the United States. There's alot of big talk about how bad rape is, but not alot of action to prevent or punish it. Just think about how difficult it is to convict someone of rape in the Unites States, especially if the woman is poor, or if she has had multiple sexual partners. The fact that so many rapes are never investigated, that it is common for people to say "she was asking for it." I think it really depends on who you are and who you are raping that determines if society is going to consider it acceptable.

I'm with jd. Unfortunately, I would contend that rape is acceptable in all societies. We have not yet had a society where a victim of sexual assault really gets all the help s/he needs, where s/he is respected as a human being and taken seriously. And if you are a successful person and a rapist, then the victim gets even less help. Just look at Kobe Bryant.

Thats an interesting question. The rape of other people outside of their society maybe? I know when countrys would get attacked a lot of the attackers would be allowed to rape and pillage. Within their own societies though I'm not really sure sorry. Interesting question though.

Rape is acceptable everywhere. If it wasn't, ALL rape victims would be able to get police reports, fair treatment at the hospital, not stigmatized by society and have appropriate aftercare. Until that happens how can society say it's not acceptable? Clearly, it is.

...don't want to be annoying, but I don't know the answer to that. But you might find it interesting that in ancient Greek times it was acceptable for grown men to carry on sexual relationships with young boys. There was huge phallus worship that can be seen today through their artwork. From what I've read, rape was "acceptable" b/c of the level of power men held in that society.
"The most common form of same-sex love between males in Greece was "paiderastia" meaning "boy love". It was a relationship between an older male and a youth around twelve to twenty. In Athens the older man was called "erastes", he was to educate, protect, love, and provide a role model for his lover. His lover was called "eromenos" whose reward for his lover lay in his beauty, youth, and promise.
The ancient Greeks, in the context of the pederastic city-states, were the first to describe, study, systematize, and establish pederasty as an institution. It was an important element in civil life, the military, philosophy and the arts."
I guess to me, that's less about homosexuality and more about taking advantage of young children. Accepted or not, it's a form of rape.

I'm not sure if acceptable is the word for it, but it's quite commonplace in Africa and unfortunately few seem willing to do anything about it, which I guess is a form of acceptance.

It is acceptable in many countries today. Well, acceptable for a man to do it but not for a woman to complain about it. (See Pakistan, Iran, Iraq pre-war)
