I was curious what people think about this. Which Reigonal accent of the United States is closest to a middle-class English accent. I would have to say the northeast. What does everyone think?

Here is a link to a sad story from the annals of nearly forgotten American history. It is about an event that took place a century ago that truly strains credibility. And yet it happened. In 1904 a group of Congolese pygmies were brought to the United States and placed on display as exhibits at the St. Louis World's Fair. Subsequently, in 1906, one of these pygmies went on display in a cage in the Monkey House.of the Bronx Zoo. This sparked a furor and protests by a group of African-American ministers soon put an end to it but not before the new exhibit attracted hordes of visitors who appeared more interested in viewing the poor pygmy than his monkey companions. Do you suppose our hypothetical forlorn E.T. could suffer some similar fate today or have we as a society evolved beyond such behavior? For the complete story and a fascinating audio account see http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story...

The dictionary tells me it's a hobby practised mainly by yunkies. I, myself, think it must be rather boring.

London fashion week has got me pondering...

Is fashion a bad thing in the sense that it encourages a disposable society where clothes which are perfectly functionable are disgarded as they are considered unfashionable - therefore wasting money, resources and energy.

OR

Is the fashion a good think which fosters huge manufacturing and service industries, generates employment and releases money into the economy?

I probably need a greater understanding of macro-economics to really grasp this one, but wonderd if there was anyone out there who has already though about this and can share their thoughts.

Please could you offer me some advice:

My collegue and I have just had a disagreement over purchasing some envelopes. Take it from me, the situation was all her fault because she ordered the wrong ones. When I asked her If she could speak to the company or cancel the order she told me to "back Off" and leave her alone (This really upset me). She is the sort of person who doesnt like to accept they are in the wrong. I just caught her tittle tattling to another collegue about the situation where I was not at fault. She would have turned it around to make it my fault!!.

What do I do:

1) Ask the other collegue what she said,
2) Leave it lie and be very(overly) Friendly to her,
3) Other (please state)

Any other advice would be helpful.

Thanks
