The part about a virus within cyberspace becoming 'selfaware' and seeing humanity as a threat.

Two things I have seen recently have really given me pause for thought.

1. VOLKSWAGEN have developed a car that can now DRIVE ITSELF - LITERALLY - FACT.
2. Microsoft's speech recognition software demostration was a disaster - FACT.

And this is the real tricky one - if we don't know what it is within the human brain that MAKES us selfaware then how can we say that something else that has ARTIFICIAL intelligence also won't be come selfaware?

Computing speeds have grown exponentially over the years - the advancement and development of the computer is probably without parallel and since we can only really MEASURE intelligence rather than know WHY it is - should we not take care when trying to produce it - in case it does become selfaware.
Surely prevention is better than cure and if it indeed became a threat - would we have enough time to respond to it - TO TURN IT OFF ??

If multiple women are attacking a man and are trying to seriously injure him (hitting him in the face, going for his private area, etc) is it ok for him to punch them in the face in self defense? If you saw a man punch the attacking women the face, would you step in, and if so, would you help the man, or would you help the women? If the cops came, would you tell the truth and say that the women attacked the man, or would you say that the man attacked the women first, so he gets in trouble?

please just be blunt and precise. I will not take offense. I'm doing this survey for my human sexuality graduate class. I have to write a paper on the reasons why we still circumcised and why it is much more common in the US. I already have all the hard fact info, aids rates, hpv and cervical cancer etc. I really just need personal opinions regarding womens and men's preference and how it feels different to the woman. If any man answering this has been circumcised later in life your opinion will be my pot of gold for this research. The reason i choose to use answers is because it is unbiased whereas all sites with like research on circumcision or either avidly pro or against circumcision. Thanks so much people

For the last 1 month, whenever i see my watch i see time like, "10:10", 11:11", "09:09" "12:12", and this pattern. last month i had an accdent, and the date was 8/8, and the time was 10:10 pm. after the accdent i started seeing times like 01:23, 12:34 (0123,1234 in a series) and, 8:16, 7:14,11:22 (8*2=16, 7*2=14, 11*2=22) and in this pattern. i am now totally confused. id it a bad sign???

I don't know why, but I've just recently realized that I can't imagine a future beyond one or two days.

I suffer from the usual hopelessness of severely depressed people. But when I was advised by my pdoc to try to think and plan more for the future, I couldn't even force myself to do it. Everything I do, think, and feel assumes that I will be dead within a day, two at the most. This would be OK if I were a New Age "in the moment" type, but I'm not. I'm morbidly depressed and am terrified of dying.

It seemed to my pdoc that the solution would be to train myself to think more about the future and anticipate positive things.

I just can't do it. I literally cannot imagine myself doing even mundane things by the weekend.

To me there simply is no future. It's something I seem to know and so can't think about. It just isn't there.

I don't like it here. I'm afraid to do anything about it because I'm a coward. There is no afterlife, of course. That's not what I'm worried about.
