I don't know why, but I've just recently realized that I can't imagine a future beyond one or two days.

I suffer from the usual hopelessness of severely depressed people. But when I was advised by my pdoc to try to think and plan more for the future, I couldn't even force myself to do it. Everything I do, think, and feel assumes that I will be dead within a day, two at the most. This would be OK if I were a New Age "in the moment" type, but I'm not. I'm morbidly depressed and am terrified of dying.

It seemed to my pdoc that the solution would be to train myself to think more about the future and anticipate positive things.

I just can't do it. I literally cannot imagine myself doing even mundane things by the weekend.

To me there simply is no future. It's something I seem to know and so can't think about. It just isn't there.

I don't like it here. I'm afraid to do anything about it because I'm a coward. There is no afterlife, of course. That's not what I'm worried about.

Re what I'm worried about? Suffering and being terrified on the way out. Nonexistence after that doesn't matter, obviously.

Still more very positive responses of support. I appreciate your help; it was very refreshing and encouraging to see none of the frequently hate-filled, sardonic postings we see on this forum.

Because your responses were all so excellent, I have to put this one up for a vote. It would be grossly unfair of me to do the selection!

Take care everyone, thanks again. I'm sure I'll be posting on this topic again on the various forums here. If I see any of yours, I'll be sure to stop in and say "Hi" and do what I can to return the favor.

the best advice I would give you is start by appreciating your present.

try to look all around, there are people suffering because they dont have anything to eat or they dont have a leg to walk. their only dream maybe to be able to dance once. there are others who are sick, blind. But i think you have no such problems.

Why not start celebrating your life right now? You have reasons to be happy so just go for it. Dont think much of what will happen in the future. If you start appreciating your present fully you will beginning to look forward to the future! I am sure:)

Can you answer a question, do you like to watch tv, if so do watch sci fi.
you say you are depressed, arent we all, you say you cannot plan for the future because you will be dead within a few days, how long have you thought like this?
you say you are terrified of dying, you may be dead already, this maybe some afterlife we have stumbled into, or you are terrified of living, be honest with yourself, is there nothing on this earth that gives you pleasure.
if i were you, i would concentrate on the people who do turn up not the people that dont. your glass is half empty whilst mine is half full. seek solace in the fact that 74.7 % of humans on this planet believe that one day they will die, the others you cannot reach. do you live every day as though its your birthday, if so how many people have you invited to tommorrow bash.
imaginagion is the keyword in you question, you suffer from a distinct and negative disorder called, negative imagination disorder, you cannot imagine anthing but bad, you say you dont like it here , when was the last time you left earth, you are not a coward ,just a human and you are right to worry but have the good sense to worry about the things in this life you can alter ,not the things you cannot,, regards, see you tomorrow, LF

l was very depressed .But I decided life is to short to sit there like a bump on a log and watch my life go by and not have any good memories. So I live every day like it is my last I go out and talk to everybody from street bumbs to famous people. As for being a coward that is just the fear of the unknown.Open your mind to your surroundings look at the sunrise and birds and the sky.look what beauty there is around you and become a part of it.Remember there is a future everyday it's the next day so enjoy it.as for the after life .yes there is a after life. But when you enter it you won't remember this life .Just like you can't remember what happened before you where born.So will be your death no pain or bad memories. But you look at death as a bad thing.Live life like you can't get enough of the things around you.And your death will be the last thing on your mind.Don't hang around negative people and watch out for Doctors that have a cure for everything in a pill. The only problem with your mind is your not using it properly.Look at the good in everything and the wonder of it all from an ant to a mountain there is happiness in everything. And I have had some experience with an Angle so yes there must be a God if he sends us Angles.

Wrong! Dammit! I FEEL YOUR PAIN! But thee is an afterlife!

I am so depressed by modern society. The only thing that keeps me sane is the hard rock and metal that i love so much. I would probabluy end up killing someone without my "noise". Phuk it dude. I am pissed off all the time by the idiots I see on tv. All these pink shirt guys or these black guys rapping about sex drugs and how great they think they are. the thing i want to kill for is the fact that most of the girls buy into this sh!t. Who the hell would honestly live by their standards.

Blades are beautiful. Cold steel. It reminds me of how depressing life can be. The physical pain is nothing compared to depression.

All i know is that there will be heaven and hell. Screw the rest. this world is lost. I am out of here as soon as Possible!

Whether you will include yourself or not there is a future and always be one.

If you have noticed there are things called grave yards. For those people time here has ended but as you see you are still here. So there is always a future.

You just have to get a grip on yourself and move forward because to stay in you mental state really sucks.

Have a nice month !

Where there is JESUS there is future and good future for that matter, worry not with the situation you are in now, God is near you just call upon him and you will get surprised with what he do for you. Read Isaiah 53: 4-5" With his stripes we are healed. Also read Jeremiah 11:27 God has a better future for you. Pray until something happens. I will be with you in prayers, You know what, the is a liar, you will ok.

God bless and good luck.

the word you are using as your user name suggests of a heavenly place situated in the vicinity (or beyond the physical space) of the Orion constellation .. this could be an indication that maybe subconsciously you have more confidence in (your) future than you are actually aware of...
