The part about a virus within cyberspace becoming 'selfaware' and seeing humanity as a threat.

Two things I have seen recently have really given me pause for thought.

1. VOLKSWAGEN have developed a car that can now DRIVE ITSELF - LITERALLY - FACT.
2. Microsoft's speech recognition software demostration was a disaster - FACT.

And this is the real tricky one - if we don't know what it is within the human brain that MAKES us selfaware then how can we say that something else that has ARTIFICIAL intelligence also won't be come selfaware?

Computing speeds have grown exponentially over the years - the advancement and development of the computer is probably without parallel and since we can only really MEASURE intelligence rather than know WHY it is - should we not take care when trying to produce it - in case it does become selfaware.
Surely prevention is better than cure and if it indeed became a threat - would we have enough time to respond to it - TO TURN IT OFF ??

I have played computer chess many times - sometimes winning, but mostly losing and I have noticed just occasionally that some of the moves a computer chess set makes are quite cheeky - I have known them to keep making the same move back and forward - so that I would make the mistake - now I know that this is probably all part of a prearranged algorithm - but I have heard it said also - if you cannot tell the difference between a copy of something and the real thing - it sometimes ceases to be relevant !

i think self awareness in its purest form is an instinct to protect ones self from harm (humans underlining programming is self preservation & survival, against all odds).

so i guess if you programme that into a robot, then it will become aware that its survival is its main objective & use any means at its disposal. to the point that the robot could create other robots in order to defend its exsistance etc,

More likely? It's hard to tell. As with all computer entries, it does first require a human programmer to input that information to begin with. However, with the mapping of our DNA, cloning, and robotics all very advanced now, self-awareness within machines is at least a feasible thought.

Global warming is a real threat and also a fact. Notwithstanding the obvious reasons, some scientists are now saying that oil is a natural coolant for the earth's core and too much has been taken out which also leads to global warming - another human-created problem.

As for Al-Qaeda, I believe their time of terror is coming to an end but they are not the only murderers in the world. Terrorists are terrorists. There were murderers before Al-Qaeda and there will be murderers after Al-Qaeda. Yet, one more human-created problem.

Who knows, maybe a terrorist will design a free-thinking machine that will sap all of the earth's natural resources and we will all end up dieing from global warming after all.

The bottom line is, humans will be the end of humans if humans don't start using at least a little bit of forethought prior to their actions.

Probably we are very far from creating selfaware machines... it's even possible that it never happens but... for being dangerous they don't need to be selfaware!!! They just need to be powerful and have a couple of bugs. Under this ciscumstances, yes, the threat exists. However the global warming is not only a threat, it's so real it's already beginning here and it's already requiring urgent measures to be taken. Glup, now i'm scared :(

We have not approached a form of self-aware AI as yet I think we have quite a few steps to go before we even approach true AI yet.. but the car you describe is interesting, consciousness to me is more a matter of what it is the device is aware of... this seems a perfect example... plus robotics/cybernetics, etc are more likely to be developed in an augmentative way than a destructive way... I don't think we will have any Terminator 3 style problems in reality, even if machines do become self-aware somehow

Aftearall you have to understand Terminator 3 is a Movie, its fiction... and scientists cannot even expain human intelligence let alone recreate it in machines...

Hope this helps.. and I hope you have fun and enjoy the gift you have called life...

i will declare international warming simply by fact simply by fact the Earth heats it is going to reason an absence of factors that could extend the outcomes of a international recession. previous that a recession could be "fastened" simply by fact markets will ultimately get well with the creation of latest products and centers. A 2001 IPCC record states there is new and extra ideal data that a selection of of the warming observed over the final 50 years is owing to human activities. Detection and attribution analyze consistently locate data for an anthropogenic sign interior the climate record of the final 35 to 50 years. those analyze incorporate uncertainties in forcing simply by anthropogenic sulfate aerosols and organic factors (volcanoes and image voltaic irradiance), yet do no longer account for the outcomes of alternative varieties of anthropogenic aerosols and land-use ameliorations. The sulfate and organic forcings are unfavourable over this era and can't clarify the warming; while maximum of those analyze locate that, over the final 50 years, the envisioned fee and fee of warming simply by increasing greenhouse gases on my own are comparable with, or better than, the observed warming. the wonderful contract between kind simulations and observations over the final a hundred and forty years has been discovered whilst all the above anthropogenic and organic forcing factors are mixed, as shown in parent SPM-2.

global warming is in fact happening whether people choose to believe so or not. The terminator was just a movie and we are far from traveling through time.

I think the end of human evolution will come at the hands (minds) of computers. It has already started happening. My computer started talking back to me and refuses to perform any tasks unless I say: "Please" and "Thank You". I made a video recording and posted it on YouTube. Check it out.
