As I was driving to work this morning I noticed these two almost rainbow-like things on the both sides of the sun. They were slightly elliptical, I think- I couldn't stare at them too long since I'd forgotten my sunglasses. Are these what people call solar flares? That sounds kind of spacey for what I'm talking about. I took some pictures with my camera phone:
