At what temperature is it safe to walk or skate on a frozen pond ?

It's not so much the temp. as how long its been cold. The longer its below freezing the thicker the ice. If it has a moveing current it takes longer. Take a step or two out on it and listen for cracks you here one stay off. Ice should be at least 6 inches to be safe,12 is better. If your not sure carry a very long stick with you if you fall thru it will be on each side of you and you can hold on and pull yourself out. 12 ft. ought to do it

Its not so much the tempurature as the thickness of the ice. I believe I have heard 5 inches of ice is safe. But it can depend on alot of things such as, the size of the pond, and your weight.

Of course, you should have somebody there with you incase something happens. You know, it wouldn't be much fun falling into a ice cold pond. =)

It is not just what the temperature is..but how long it has been a certain temperature...It also depends on how shallow the pond is.
Best bet..go to the ice rink
