Not specific enough for a comparison here, as the person from Georgia points out. The "east" does not automatically get a lot of snow while some places in CA get legendary snowfalls.Witness Mt Shasta, or Truckee, or Donner Pass. The Lake Tahoe region can get more snow in one storm than most of the east gets during an entire winter.

It snows in some places in California. In particular it snows in the mountains once you reach a high enough elevation. The Sierras certainly get snow in the winter. Mammoth ski resort is in California. And it's not the only ski resort.
