It's really irritating. What are we going to do when they become law? Will mood lighting become a thing of the past, unless you get on a ladder and change the bulb for a lower wattage?

Also they tell you that they're equivalent to 60w or whatever, but they don't give the same light you would expect at that rating.

I'm not impressed, and I can't say I've seen any discernable drop in my electricitty bill, either.

when we know that a lot of energy (as electromagnetic waves and particules) is travelling through space, is that not enough to fill in the mass deficit of the universe ?
we know of the duality wave particule or energy equal mass, why do we need dark matter ?

Theories of cat behavior

LAW OF CAT INERTIA
A cat at rest will tend to remain at rest, unless acted upon
by some outside force, such as the opening of cat food, or a
nearby scurrying mouse.

LAW OF CAT MOTION
A cat will move in a straight line, unless there is a really good
reason to change direction.

FIRST LAW OF CAT ENERGY CONSERVATION
Cats know that energy can neither be created nor destroyed and will,
therefore, use as little energy as possible.

LAW OF BAG/BOX OCCUPANCY
All bags and boxes in a given room must contain a cat within the
earliest possible nanosecond.

LAW OF FURNITURE REPLACEMENT
A cat's desire to scratch furniture is directly proportional to the
cost of the furniture.

LAW OF CAT COMPOSITION
A cat is composed of Matter + Anti-matter + It Doesn't Matter.

LAW OF CAT OBEDIENCE
As yet undiscovered. Theories of cat behavior

the speed of light, would we be going back in time?

I don't know if this just sounds like a silly question, but seriously, if you are travelling faster than light.. what do people think will happen?

A tennis player serves the ball such that
1) the initial speed of the ball is 50 m/s
2) the ball is angled downward at an angle of depression θ from the horizontal
3) the ball is initially served from a height of 2 m above the ground

The net is 1 m high, and is 12 m away from the server. The ball must clear the net and land within 6 m from the net, ie the ball must hit the ground 12-18 m from the server.

It is NOT possible to do this without topspin. How much force of topspin is required to make the ball clear the net (x=12) and land at x=18? And what value of θ is required?

For simplicity consider topspin to result in a constant downward force.

Ignore air resistance, side spin, serving out wide etc. Only use the values given here.
g = 9.81 m/s^2

Scientists assume all sorts of things to explain how Big Bang occured such as Hyper-Space,Multi-Dimensional Space,Multiple Universes,..Etc Which can't even be proved atleast in de near future. Its de same case even with other models. Under science we can assume a theory as valid as long as it satisfactorily explains a natural phenomenon and till someone proves it wrong.. So now whats the problem for the scientific world if they assume that God caused the Big Bang..?? Because there is no reason to Disprove and Oppose it.. But some may argue "How did God come in the first place..?"Well.. Since Space-time began at Big Bang we can argue that since God created Space-Time..He is beyond time.. So u cant point to the time when God was formed.. Because if u try to do so u will be confining God within Time limits.. But he existed before time began for he himself was the creator of time at Big Bang..!!So since he is beyond time we can argue that he was never created but He always existed..!

Let me make up a question:

A prototype is being tested. The research team would like to know how big of a jerk they can achieve. The pilot takes off and accelerates uniformly from the starting position at a rate that will cause his velocity to be 300 feet per second in exactly 10 seconds. When his velocity reaches 150 feet per second, he flips the test switch and his acceleration uniformly increases at a rate which will cause his velocity to reach 600 feet per second at the original 10 second mark. What was the magnitude of the jerk?

"evolution" means " the totality of evolution": the entire family tree with time in view of natural events.
"explain" means "explain in principle", not "computationally predict everything".
"current laws" exclude vague models.

To situate this question in its context, here are my answers to related questions:

Do mechanisms such as descent, mutation, gene flow, natural selection, etc. make *plausible* that the family tree is explained by physics? Yes, but still life may be special and it is not the original domain of physics.

Do they have predictive power in the family tree? Yes.

Do the laws of physics explain the totality of life? Most likely no.

Do the laws of physics explain some aspects of life? Sure, it is called biophysics. However, it uses specific models as evidence when it applies.

My bet is that your answer to the question depends on the way life is special for you. If you're a Creationist, no evidence is enough. I'm not a creationist, but still life is special for me.

it is literally true that, for example, time runs more slowly(by a tiny fraction!) inside a moving aeroplane than it does for those of us on ground... if u travelled in a fast spaceship to another star and back, ur journey might seem to u to take a few months, but u would return to find that many yrs had passed on earth....
Plz explain this.............

It's just so hard for me to comprehend. I know the universe is huge, but how could there be an end to it? Would you just hit a wall and if so what is on the other side of the wall? They say some day that the universe may implode. If so what would be there. There has to be something still there. It cannot just go away.

A 15 kg mass hangs in the loop of a light inextensible cable, one end of the cable being fixed and the other wound round a wheel of radius 0.3m and moment of Inertia 0.9 kgm^2 so that the lengths of the cable are vertical. The mass is released from rest and falls, turning the wheel (take g=9.81). Neglecting friction between the mass and the loop of the cable and between the wheel and its bearings, find:

a relationship between the downward velocity of the mass, v, and the angular velocity of the wheel, w.

the speed of the mass when it has fallen a distance of 2m

the number of turns of the wheel before it reaches a rotation rate of 300rpm
