The idea of numbers being in a loop has always interested me. I first began thinking about this when trying to understand tan90 as when it appraches from the left it tends towards positive infinity and as it approoaches from the right it tends towards negative infinity. I know my hypothesis is totally abstract but then again is infinity itself and mathematics in general abstract. This notion first began when reading about a closed universe and thought that if it is theoretical for a universe to be closed why not the number system that defines it. I imagine the numbers zero and positive/negative infinity as being different poles on a sphere. where positive infinity and negative infinity are a whole circumference apart from each other but are also at the same point.

I want to find out how much money it will cost [in gas ] to drive 20.22 miles exactly. That is going one way, so I need to know how much it will cost both ways, with the gas price being ( at the highest ) $ 3.35.

So gas price: $ 3.35
Distance: 20.22 Miles One Way
Distance: 40.44 Miles Both Ways

How much will it cost to go to this place in all?

I really don't know how to do this and it has nothing to do with math homework. I need to find the price to volunteer at an animal shelter every weekend to see if I can afford to pay the person driving me.

Today I answered a simple problem of trigonometry and was the first to solve it. But someone had just posted the question only as an answer before me and edited it with the answer after seeing my answer. Now it appears that he was the first to solve. What should be done to discourage such an unethical practice?

you must use all four numbers. For example, the numbers 5, 5, 8, 8 can equal 24 as follows: 5*5-8/8
also, reversed order only counts as one
I already have one. (3/7+3)*7
can anyone think of any others

Outta curiousity, asymptotes are values that a curve approaches, but never meet the curve at those lines, but in curves like

f(x) = 1 + (x / x^2 +1)

they cross the asymptote heaps of times xD, why's that?

The horizontal asymptote is y= 1, and yet thats its axis intercept...

Is there a special case with horizontal asymptotes?

And can a curve cross its verticle asymptotes?

I guarentee there is some retarded curve out there xD But why can it cross, they aint meant to touch each! =S
