How do you solve for X in matrixes?

For example please explain how ([-2x 11] - ([-13 -12]) + [ 0 17] = [23 28 ]

[a b] + [c d] = [a+c b+d]
just add corresponding entries, so
-2x - -13 + 0 = 23
-2x + 13 = 23
-2x = 10
x = -5
and just checking 2nd entries,
11 - -12 + 17 = 28
11 + 12 + 17 = 28
40 = 28
