The following is a problem I have to program for MATLAB; my math skills are not the best though, so I would appreciate any help:)
A box has the dimensions of 5 inches x 4 inches x 6 inches
I must: compute the length of the diagonal from one corner to the far corner of the box. Also, if you know what this is called, it might help because there is possibly a program in MATLAB that already does this function.... Thanks in advance!

A business woman is preparing an itinerary for a vist to six major cities

a) How many different itineraries are possible?
which is easy, 6!

b) If the businesswoman randomly selects one of the possible itineraries and Denver and San Francisco are two of the cities that she plans to visit, what is the probability that she will Denver before San Francisco.

I have the answer, I just did [(5! x 1) + (4 x 4!) + (12 x 3!) + (24 x 2!) + (4!)] / 6!

Now my question is, is there a more elegant way to extract the same answer?

1) Find the constant c that makes g continuous on (-infinity, infinity)
g(x) = {x^2-c^2 if x<4
{cx+20 if x>(less than or equal to)4
I got: by plugging in 4 into both equations
x^2-c^2=4^2-c^2=16-c^2 & cx+20=c(4)+20=4c+20
then combining them together: 4c+20=16-c^2
4c+4=-c^2
c^2+4c+4=0
(c+2)(c+2)=0
c+2=0
c+2=0
c=-2 & c=-2

2) Use the intermediate value theorem to prove that there is a positive number c such that c^2=2. (This proves the existence of the number sqrt[2])
c^2 is a polynomial & continuous function on its domain & its domain is from (-infinity, infinity)
It's an open interval so I took a closed interval of [1,2] from that open interval.
f(1)=1 & f(2)=4 so N=2 so there exists a number c in (1,2) such that f(c)=2

I'm in high school, but I still can't pass Pre Algebra. I got a worksheet today, but I don't understand it. No, I'm not asking you to do my homework, I'm just asking for help.
The worksheet says:
For this task you will use deductive reasoning to determine which of the digits from 0 to 9 each of the letters represents. Each of the digits from 0 to 9 is used exactly once.

1. g + g + g = d

2. j + e = j

3. g times g= d

4. b + g = d

5. f - b = c

6. a x c = a

I kind of understand the instuctions, from what I understand you have to figure out what the letters are and what number they are. But I can't figure out how to do it. =[

Thanks in advance.
