While your opponent is watching the first one, you throw a second one at a low angle and timed to arrive at your opponent before or at the same time as the first one. Assume both snowballs are thrown with a speed of 30.0 m/s. The first one is thrown at an angle of 75.0° with respect to the horizontal.

(b) How many seconds later should the second snowball be thrown if it is to land at the same time as the first?

heres the problem

a set of numbers is said to be closed under a certain operation if, when you perfrom the operation any 2 #s in a set, the result is also in a set.

the set of real #s is closed under addition. This means that when you add any two real numbers, the sum is also a real #

is the set of real numbers closed under subtraction?

...do not intersect.

The discriminants are 16 for the former and -23 for the latter (discriminant is b^2 - 4ac).

My friend said that since the parabola only had an imaginary solution, that it did not cross the x axis, but that doesn't mean they don't intersect.

I was thinking it would be all numbers so it would just be the plane of the graph because no matter what you put in you get 0 = 0 which is true. Is this right?

You can go to http://www.mindchallenger.com for brain teasers like this along with answers to some.

George is driving 100 ft/sec toward an intersection. He looks to his right, and sees Bill, driving 30 ft/sec toward the same intersection (they are approaching at right angle towards each other and not head on). George foolishly slams on his brakes. If he had kept going 100 ft/sec, he would have been through the intersection long before Bill got there. At the instant that he slams on his brakes, the center of George's car is 125 ft from the intersection, and the center of Bill's car is 150 ft from the intersection. George's brakes give his car an acceleration of -30 ft/sec/sec. Bill never changes his speed. Each car is 13 ft long and 7 ft wide. Is there a collision?
