Now that graphic novels are so popular, this very visual distinction is very cool, yes? Helpful for clarity too?

The asthenopshere makes no sense. How can the earth go from solid (inner core), to liquid (Outer Core), Then Solid (Mantle), Then Liquid (Asthenosphere), back to solid (Crust)?

How is the mantle solid and the asthenosphere liquid? How do the plates move?

I AM SO CONFUSED!

You know how they said that we evolved form apes and stuff, and noahs ark?And that a giant meteorid crashed into the planet and killed off all the dinosaurs? What I think is that..ok,the dinosaurs could have lived at the same time as dinosaurs, and the humans had no idea of it,and then a meteroid crashed into the planet wiping out all humans and dinosaurs, and at the same time, creating lakes and rivers all around the world. Then they could have filled up with water after the flood as mentioned in Noahs Ark,filling the big holes in the ground with water(that the meteorids created)And then all the dinosaurs and humans drowned. Then God shows up and creates more humans. Then the continent(known as Pangea back then millions of years ago or so) splits up into what we now call like North America,Russia,Europe,Africa,A... so on.
Then as the years pass,we humans learn about the world and how it functions,we learn how to survive!ANd besides, someone had to have created apes too!

I am a geology major. I transfered to Univeristy Alaska Fairbanks from Murray State University in KY. MSU only required up to Calculus and two semesters of any given science other than geology. UAF required two semesters of Physics, two of Chemistry and all the way up to Calculus 2. I have heard that all of this is useless because in the field, everything is on computer and you really do not even use the other sciences that much, aside from reference. I would like to know how true this is. I am struggeling in the physics class and my math class. I am worried that I will not be able to cut it as a geologist if I have to used calculus in everyday work and know all these physics formulas even though the geology classes are so easy for me.

Thanks for your responses!

The story goes that an old lady used to sit their all day long, she passed away a week ago and the tree in which she used to sit, froze, the braches with thick peices of ice. Any explanation, it came out on TV and everything, people are going, and collecting water drops as a sign of something religious. Keep in mind, that over here in ROMA, TEXAS, it is very very hot all the time!! I went this morning and only some peices of ice are left.
