Is it really going to be safe to rebuild New Orleans? Isn't it still going to be below sea level? They have 100,000 homes built on volcanic ash by Mt. Ranier, and homes built on sand bars in North Carolina. If someone builds their house on an obvious potential hazard area - the area gets wasted several times, and then someone builds a house again there, then why sould our government keep bailing out people who choose to live in a place that isnt' safe. I realize how much these people need help. But if you camp your house by a volcano then isn't it partly your fault if your house ends up buried in ash? It's just insane... I'm not trying to be insensitive, but people need to think. right?

Are there any decent theories as to how early humans discovered how to make bronze or iron. It seems a bit far-fetched to suggest that someone could have accidently dropped a rock containing metal ores into a fire and hey presto, Iron! Can I have your serious theories please.

A friend excitedly calls and tells you she found a hefty metallic yellow nodule in a nearby stream that weighs 8.7 ounces! Now, you know there are other minerals besides gold that fit that description, but only gold has a specific gravity of 19.3. ‘Quick,’ you ask ‘what is its volume?’ By dropping the nugget into a graduated cylinder half filled with water she reports that the nugget’s volume is 12.757 cm3. Is your friend rich, or has she gotten excited over nothing? Use whatever calculations you think necessary to come to your conclusion and show your work. You may find the following conversions very useful:

1 gram (gm) = 0.035 ounces (oz)
1 oz = 28.3 gm

the same thing applies for earths mantle. the same thing is happening there. warm lava near the bottom is rising up because when heated density is lower and when lava is at the top it is cooler so it is more dense and falls back down. what i need to know is the name applied for this kind of cycle of change.

and if you can, can you tell me how earths mantle is different from a lava lamp???

"God causes all things to grow
Through every season we know.
He will guard the life,
That He's planted in our souls;
And when we feel the cold winds blow,
We'll hold to what we know.
God causes all things to grow.

Since it formed out of countless collisions with tiny rocks in a more-or-less continuous fashion, there doesn't really seem to be a clear distinction between "not Earth yet" and "Earth". So what is being defined with that "date"? The rock having Earth's present mass? A regular orbit around the sun? A certain core temperature?
Thanks

Last time I asked a similar question I got stupid, incorrect, nasty, ignorant, and dumb answers. The Bible says professing themselves to be wise they bacame fools. And believing in science falsely so called worship the creation. For the correct answer look for Yahoo Group Biblical Science News

This volcano activity reduced the human population of the planet to 7500 individuals about 75,000 years ago. With the large earthquakes in the area around Mt. Toba, I thought the mountain may be clearing its throat.
