OK, well the cocoa part is an exaggeration. But the snug coat isn't. The crust of the earth loses heat slowly to the atmosphere and the atmosphere loses heat slowly to outer space, but not much heat gets from the core of the earth to the atmosphere because the crust is a fairly good insulator.
