I have just been washing up and noticed the water went down the plug clockwise and remembered someone once told me if you live in Australia it goes down anticlockwise?is this true? sad or what? but football is on!!!!!!!!!!

yes, it's true.. it's because of the rotation of the earth.. if you're on the equator it goes straight down!

No, it is not true.

The Coriolis effect is too small by several orders of magnitude to affect the direction of water spiralling down your drain. If it were strong enough to do that, it would be strong enough to FEEL just walking around.

The direction that drains spiral has far more to do with the characteristics of the basin itsefl, and with random sloshing around of the water right before draining.

yes it is true. it called the Coriolis effect. and I heard its really wierd to be on the other side of it.
