A transform boundary is also known as a strike-slip fault. On these boundaries, the tectonic plates move past each other, traveling in opposite directions, and generally staying at the same elevations, either left laterally or right laterally. A good example of a transform boundary is the San Andreas Fault.

Geomatic is correct. Transform boundaries (transform fault boundaries) are margins where two tectonic plates grind past each other horozontally, w/o production or destruction of the the crust & upper mantle, or lithosphere (as w/ divergent or convergent boundaries) . Most transform faults are in ocean basins, but some cut through continental crust, like the San Andreas. Transform boundaries are associated with earthquakes.
