Do you mean just the surface or the 4 layers of the entire planet?
The four layers of the planet are, as mentioned, the crust, mantle, outer core, and inner core.
As for the surface, there aren't really 4 distinct parts unless you want to break in up into continents, oceans, ice caps, and atmosphere, but I'm just postulating here.

1. Eastern (old world) and Western (new world) hemisphere that is more ethnic, cultural and historical. 2. Northern & Southern hemispheres that is more Geographiical. I have a method of 'tagging' it in Boolean Algebra terms. Take a 2 digit number to represent region. The first digit is for E/W. Old world is termed 'o' and the new as '1'. the next digit is for N/S. The north (again being old) scores a '0' and southern scores a '1'. As an example take Africa's case. (00): Egypt to Somalia in the south & Algeria to the west, reaching to Guinea coast. Includes cameroun, Tchad and CAR. (01): Kenya till lands end at Agulhas cape and north upto Congo s and Gabon (10): West African bulge of the line from Morocco to Ghana. (11): Nil - it is only the Southern Pacific in this region.
