I read on a FAQ website it isn't possible to officially name a star? I think it is way cool but don't want to waste my money on these websites that sell you the "idea" of buying a star. Does anyone know if NASA or a similar international company sponsers these websites?

If the distance between the planet and the sun were increased, withough altering either of the planets period of revoution or the period pf the planets rotation about its own axis, would the time difference between a solar day and a sidereal day increase or decrease???

I noticed it in mid October while looking at stars with binoculars. you could also see it with the naked eye. When I looked at it in mid November it seemed to be disapated somewhat and larger in diamiter. Was this something new or has it always been there?

I know Mars is and know which one it is, but i looked at an onliune star chart and saw Saturn was also but i am not sure if i have seen it or not. I have seen a star/planet left and up a bit of Mars (check my detailed terminology!!) it's not twinkling and i was wondering if this is Saturn.

Thanks

if i know uranus' orbital period, i know its distance from the sun and it moves from opposition to quadrature with respect to earth, how do i work out how long it takes to move between these 2 points. a circular orbit is assumed.

radius = 19.23 AU
sidereal period = 84.33 years
synodic period = 1.012 years

i feel like this is such a simple thing to do but ive ran out of steam tonight.

cheers.

A star creates an absorbtion spectrum because when light given off by the hot solid, it passes through a cool gas. Then, how come when we look at our sun, it is a continuous spectrum? I asked my teacher this, and she didn't know why. She told me to look it up myself for extra credit, but i can't find it anywhere. Please answer ASAP. Thanks!

Paleogravity is the theory that the apparent low-gravity characteristics of dinosaurs ("too heavy to support their weight on land") are due to an actual lower surface gravity of the planet beyond 65 million years ago. I have proposed that this was possible due to higher core temperatures, and therefore an expanded Earth volume. Thus, the dinosaurs would have lived in the gravity zone where some of our satellites orbit today. So, how do I calculate the number of miles the Earth's radius would have to increase to reduce the surface gravity by such-and-such a percentage? I used to study analytic geometry but that was some years ago... I'm going to start re-learning that but thought I would throw this out there in case anyone else is willing. Some other fellas and I are arguing the theory at:
