I'm looking into buying a telescope.
Of course, budget is a concern,
so I'm wondering...

does anyone know what the minimum decent size is?
I see them ranging from 50mm x 450mm
to 1100mm x 102mm

This means nothing to me.

Also, I see there are Dobsonian, Newtonian, and Gallileo ones.
Assuming these are brands?

More important distinctions I think are:
Tri-centric
Refractor
Reflector
Astronomical (I know what that means)
Terrestrial (I know what that means, too and it's not ET!)
and Equatorial

Any ideas what these mean and why I would want them on my telescope?

Kind of in a rush,
as I'd like to purchase it before Thursday.
(Birthday present)

If I know what these things mean,
then I can maybe find one I want in a price range I can afford.
(the one that has them all is $1,399)

I heard there is a phenonmen a lot of people and writers talk about, like one called divine matrix of the universere where when you really wish for something, it will become true.
But I'm currently in spat with a friend and I tell them its not this force, but being psychic that determines that you think you wish for.
Case in point ( and this is a small-scale example):
I'm at home and I wonder about a friend who never calls. About less than five minutes later, she calls.
Now, did I "will" her to call me, or did I "sense" she would call.
So, what to you think it is around us?
Force that can be manipulated or Psychic energy?

Here's the question:
Explain why there are two high tides and 2 low tides each day.
i get the whole gravity pull thing, but wouldn't there only be one high and low tide per day? would the earht need to rotate a second time for a second tide?

The question is: Does a satellite at a low tilt angle, low altitude orbit see more or less of Earth's surface than a satellite at a high tilt angle, low altitude orbit as it revolves around Earth? Why?

Please help me...I am totally lost on this one. Thanks!

A friend of mine, likes to sit outside at night and look at the stars. However, there is one star that is much brighter and bigger than a normal star. Even when there are no stars out at night, that one is still out and brighter than ever. It also seems to move. One minute it is in one place and the next it is in a totally different place. He claims that it isn't a star, that it is a satellite put there to help the law watch people. I say he is crazy because if that was the case, more criminals would be going to jail. Has any one notice this star or know what this could be?

Why wouldn’t this work???
Design fuel storage tanks that fit in cargo area of space shuttle. Launch extra fuel in unmanned rockets to space station.
Have space shuttle launch and dock at space station… fullup extra fuel tanks. Then use shuttle to fly back to moon? With much lower gravity, shouldn’t the shuttle be able to break gravitational pull of moon and return to Earth?
Wouldn’t this be both cost effective and much faster than 10 years to design a vehicle to go back to the moon? (On a slightly different note… why did it take 7 years to get there the first time, but 10 years after 30 years of technological advances?)
BTW, please don’t respond with “Makes too much since… so they would never do it!” :)

anyone know what this is? I am near detroit, MI...looking to the east in the early morning (5-6 am) there has been what looks like a very bright star very low lying in the sky. With binoculars, you can see tiny bright objects near this star...By the looks of it, it is a planet, and the small bright things are moons, does anyone know for sure what it is?
