The star closest to earth is Sol, which we call the Sun.

Other than the sun, the closest star is Proxima Centauri, which is about 4.8 light years away.

The closest star is the Sun, 8 light minutes away. The second closest is Proxima Centauri, 4.22 light years away (not 4.8).
