Does Jupiter (and Saturn for that matter) have a solid surface at all? If not, then why don't objects pass all of the way through- the pressures within? Seems when Shoemaker-Levy exploded quickly... Was this due to atmospheric pressures or surface impacts?

Help on physics/astronomy problem...?

You want to send a spacecraft from Earth to Mars [P(Mars)=1.88 yrs; a(Mars) = 1.52 AU]
Note:. You can use a sketch to show the relative positions of Earth and Mars when you launch the spacecraft.

1. What is the period of the spacecraft's orbit?
2. How long will it take the spacecraft to get to Mars?

At some point in the chain no matter how small you go something had to get the ball rolling. I've never seen an object move or be created without outside force.

If we started from a point (say a working clock face reading 12:01am) and raced away from that point (say because of THE big bang) at less than the speed of light, how can we look back at the clock and hope to see what it looked like at 12:01am (that is the big bang)? That is although the clock will appear to be running slower (for as long as we can see it), it doesn't stop because we are travelling slower than light away from it.

Can you please explain it like you might to someone whose knowledge of science doesn't extend beyond what we learnt at juniour high school?

If the Universe has a defined border and and were closer to one end than another, would we be able to tell? If we can see out far enough, and thus back into time, enough to see billions of years ago in every section of the sky....are we the center of the Universe?

Thanks to everyone who answered.I get why it doesn't shine in space.Nothing to reflect off of.So does that mean that if someone holds a little compact mirror towards the sun, while in space ofcourse, the light will shine or would it have to be a huge contraption? Sry if it seems silly to some.I just always have questions. Thanks for even reading.
