So the typical answer is that it separated via a straining process, sanitized and taken to an incinerator or landfill. Since landfills are far more popular in the U.S., focus on that. Is it stored separately from the rest of the trash, that is, how is it processed at the landfill?

On the show "Mythbusters", they did an experiment that seemed to indicate that elephants have an adverse reaction to mice. They put a live mouse in a hollowed out elephant dropping. When an elephant walked by, they pulled a string and let the mouse out. Two elephants seemed startled on distinct trials, (they only tried it with the mouse twice, so that's 100%). And there was no reaction when they moved the device without a mouse in it. I know its not a truly scientific experiment, not a big enough sample, etc. But why do you think the elephants would react to a mouse like that?

A friend describes his invention for a variable speed tranmission for bicycles, which involves a novel design for a sprocket wheel. This sprocket wheel has a flexible system of spring-like spokes so that it can have an eccentric axle, i.e. the axle is off center with the sprocket wheel. The theory is that the "effective lever arm length" is continuously adjustable. What's the best way to explain why this idea won't work?
