I've been reading over some review and come across these problems and I'm not sure how to go about the wording.. I was hoping some of you on here had experience with it.

1. For each real number x, x^2 ≥ x.
2. Any even integer is a multiple of 4.
3. There is a real value of x such that x^2 < 2x − 1.

Thanks.

why did it fall through itself, instead of falling over? Even if the beams were soft they would still offer some resistance, wouldn't they. I just can't understand how all the support columns could melt at exactly the same time.

Ok, this is for a website I'm working on, but I'm going to abstract the real problem in order to explain it more clearly:

Say I own a parking lot in a busy downtown area. You agree to rent a parking space from me for $100/day. However, as soon as you park your car, the value of that space begins to decline logarithmically. Precisely 24 hours later, it's value is reduced to $0.00. When I say "logarithmically" I mean that the value of the parking space might decline by $0.02 during the first 10 minutes, but during the final 10 minutes of the day, it may decline by $5.00.

How do I calculate the value of the parking space at any given instant during the day?

A parachutist in free fall travels a vertical distance x from her starting point in a time t. If the effect of air resistance is neglected, the relationship between x and t is approximately

x=5t^2

Use a limiting process to calculate the gradient of curve x = 5t^2 when t=2.

What does the value you have found for the gradient tell you about the vertical velocity of the parachustist at t=2
