That is the Bering Strait. It separates Russia (Siberia) from North America (Alaska). It also connects the Bering Sea with the Arctic Ocean.

There is only sixty miles that separate Naukan, Russia, from Wales, Alaska to the southeast. There is as little as 2 miles between Ostrov Ratmanova (Russian island) and Little Diomede Island (Alaskan Island).
