The mathematical definition of a diagonal is "an adjacent line that bisects a polygon." Does anyone know of an theorem/equation that will determine how many diagonals a polygon has, without having to do a drawing to see how many there are? An example is how many diagonals would a decagon (10 sided polygon) have?

I don't find speed reading much effective for studying sceince subjects(Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics). I think the more slowly you read the more the concepts become clear. The faster you read the more you go past without understanding a thing. Is this just my problem or a general problem with speed reading?

You are heating a quart of boiling water. After taking it off of the burner, you have the task of getting the water to the lowest temperature possible at the 15 minute mark. You MUST add 50 ml of ice water in order to do so (can't omit it).

Should you add the ice water immediately after taking the boiling water off of the burner, or wait add the ice water at the 14-minute mark? It is either or; no times in between. Or does it matter at all?

I am erecting a sail which is an equilateral triangle with each side being 5 metres long. I intend to sink two holes against a straight wall five metres apart (actually a bit more for allowing for fittings) and I want to know how far out to dig the third hole.
Same question but an addition to this project. I also purchased a seconb sail which I want to butt up against the first one (5 metre side touching the other 5 metre side) the finished result would be a rhombus(?) of two triangles. One pointing outward and the other pointing inwards but touching the other. I am completely bamboozled. Thanks Pauline

Can you please explain the following:
The addition or removal of a substance in solid or liquid state does not change the concentration of that substance. The reaction of conndensed phases takes place only at an exposed surface- and if the surface exposed is changes it is always exactly the same chnage in available area for both forward and reverse reaction collisions. The forward and reverse rates will change by exactly the same amount if they change at all, so equilibrium is not disturbed and no shift occurs.
