Hair can be found all over human body, except for the palms of hands and at the soles of feet. The purpose of hair is protective. The hairs on the body keeps a person warm, nose hairs prevent dust and dirt from entering the respiratory system, and eyebrows prevent sweat from entering the eyes. Pubic hair actually serves several purposes. It's primary purpose is to trap pheremones which is an odorous substance or smell secreted by an organism which sexually attracts and increases arousal in potential mates. Also in men it can trap air and therefore help regulate the temperature of the testicles, which is obviously important for men. The amount of hair we have is caused by the amount of the hormone testosterone, which floats around in our bloodstream. Males have more of this hormone than females. Though women have less of this hormone than men, we still have it and it enables us to grow hair on our heads, arm pits and pubic area. The amount of hair that you have is also determined by your genetics.

Nature provides for everything!

There was a time when body hair kept humans warm! The colder the climate, the more hair!

The same with the nose. The hotter the climate the broader the nose, the colder the climate the narrower the nose!

One function of the nose is to support body temperature.

As for clothes, clothing is relatively new on the scene! Humans did go naked or only had hair for a long while.

Some people seem to think that humans have always come dressed up like they are today, shoes, socks, under ware, pants/skirt blouse/shirt and hat!

Just ain't so! Why so little hair now? Because Nature takes away
what ever is not needed or used! Humans started making covering so over time nature provided less and less hair!

I think the hair on the head is protect your brain from the changes in temperature - from overheating by the sun and from getting too cold when there is no sun.

I think the other hair like pubic and armpit is to help you to prevent abrasions from rubbing your arm/legs on your body. If you ever tried to shave it and then you didn't use an anti-perspirant and then you walked around in hot weather all day your skin starts to feel uncomfortable in those places.

I think some humans have more hair than others just because of natural variation in the species.

Hair keeps heat and cold away from the scalp and top of head. Ever had a real bad sunburn? Imagine that on top of your head. Overly hairy people are called hirsute (her-soot). (don't make fun of your friends, now) Ever time you shave, thicker hair grows back out (not in number, each hair no longer has the fine point, makes it easier to see. Most all other country's women don't shave under arms or legs. Pubic hair 'protects' to a small extent and keeps out bugs and pollen, dirt and sand, but not whoever. Baldness is unpredictable.
Grampa was 92 and still had all his hair and teeth...........in a box.

It's for protection. You have to remember that humans didn't always wear underwear. Haha. Anyway, eyelashes and brows keep debris out of your eyes; the hair on top of your head is to hold in your body's heat; pubic hair keeps debris out of the delicate skin in the pubic region.

Pubic hair's purpose is to keep the area warm and at the same time prevent insects from crwling into our skins, so that these insects will be obstructed while travelling in our skin.

Hair is to keep us warm and also protect us from infection/bacteria (especially the pubic hair). Some have more than others because of genetics and location of our ancestors.

To keep you warm for one thing. Hair around the pubic regions, ears, nose and eyes is for protection. It helps to keep dirt and things of that nature out.

Hair started out as fur to keep us warm. As we started adapting the world around us (wearing clothes, building shelters, fire) we gradually began growing less fur (hair). Why pubic hair? I don't have an answer for that one....

Prior to the invention of clothing, it was to keep us warm. We have less hair as it wasn't a necessity for survival and was weeded out genetically through evolution. Now it's primary role is mainly for looks, which gives it a role in mate selection and thus is carried on genetically.
