1) used in ammonia, NH3, production (Haber process). This is the greatest use of nitrogen. Ammonia is used for fertilizer production and to produce nitric acid (Ostwald process)

2) used by the electronics industry, which uses the gas as a blanketing medium during production of such components as transistors, diodes, etc.

3) used in annealing stainless steel and other steel mill products

4) used as a refrigerant both for the immersion freezing of food products and for transportation of foods

5) used as an intert atmosphere in tanks of explosive liquid storage tanks, both in ground-based tanks and in ships

6) liquid nitrogen is used by the oil industry to build up pressure in wells to force crude oil upward

You can but nitrogen in any tires for automotive vehicles. The main reason nitrogen is being pushed at automotive repair centers is because nitrogen in an inert gas that is made up of larger molecules then the oxygen we breath that has been used for years now to fill our tires. Which: reduces the permeation ( the loss of air over time). The other contributor for the push is vehicles rolling of the assemble line are using tire pressure monitoring systems that utilize a sensor inside the rim located where your typical rubber valve stem used to be located. Normal air from the air compressor may cause premature failure of the sensor. So the use of nitrogen was the fix.

Nitrogen is there because it's there. We only need about 20% of the atmosphere to be oxygen to breathe. This is why you can give CPR to someone and keep them breathing. Your exhale is about 18% oxygen. I suppose God made it that way because He knew you would ask this question. Nitrogen can keep fresh fruit from spoiling if you put the fruit and the gas into a closed container. They do this in Washington. They keep apples fresh for months. Apples are picked in September and October, but you can buy them fresh in July. How do they do that? With nitrogen!

nitrogen is needed for the survival of the plants. though the plants donot use nitrogen directly the fix the atmospheric nitrogen in the soil directly or through some other organisms like algae, fungi, bacteria and then consume the nitrogen in the form of oxides, NH3 or any other forms. even for the decomposition after death nitrogen is needed. not only plants we too need nitrogen directly and indirectly.so our ecology needs 78% of nitrogen.
nothing in this world is created unnecessarily. but we can find out the reason for their creation.i appreciate u.

To answer #2, Oxygen isn't flammable and it's not a fuel.
Heck even if it makes up %20% of air, if it was flammable, the earth would have burned up long ago.

so the world isn't a giant fireball, if there was even a spark anywhere the world all the in the oxygen would catch on fire. nitrogen is nonflammable so that doesn't happen.

we can survive only along with nitrogen and oxygen.......if not, we will die just by breathing oxygen......it has many uses like in nitrogen cycle in plants for them to survive, which is indirectly important to us too.......many divers uses nitrogen mixed with other gases to go under the sea......nitrogen has been an important constituent in the growth of plants.......many fertilizers available has more nitrogen in excess as compared to any substances.......finally, it is essentisl for day-to-day life, like oxygen.....
