I am in my third year of calculus, and I am annoyed that for some unknown reason I get y = 2(x - 2)^2 - 4 as the answer-- yet the book says its wrong. Someone tell me this is a typo and that I am not living in the twilight zone.

Humans have two ears so we can hear the direction the sound is coming from. (necessary for survival)
Humans also have two eyes so we can see in 3D. (also necessary for survival)
But what's the purpose of having two breasts instead of one, kinda like a male penis? What advantage does two breasts serve rather than symmetry?

everyone that says that it wont be because we havent been visited by us in the future, i think we have.
all of those alien sightings that have been reported over the years, thats us evolved.
1. time travel will most likely happen in a space ship
2 if we continue to evolve we will probably look alot like these "aliens" smaller bodies with bigger size brains and heads
3 time travel is possible just not yet

I was watching the news last night, and even there was a BBC camera man living on that street that came out to fim after the tornado, well he wouldn't get promoted far. So all that technology with picture phones and video phones and yet there is nothing.

I understand it was frightening, I would have been scared too. But if you don't reach for your phone to take picture of something like that, that you can show to everyone if you survive that you made it when would you? What do you think?

I'm studying the most basic economics in college right now. This is an easy concept however I don't understand why.

Qd = 100 - 2P, where P is price and Qd is Quantity Demanded
Qs = 2P - 20, where P is price and Qs is Quantity Supplied
Suppose the gov enacts a price ceiling of 40. At the new price, is there ane excess demand, excess supply, or neither? What is the new market price and qty bought and sold?

Now, I thought it was excess demand because if you plug in the price ceiling of 40 for P in both equations, you get 20 as Q for the supply curve and 60 for the demand curve. This means there will only be 20 sold while 60 are for sale, so there's an extra 40 not being sold, therefore its an excess supply..

However the answer is there's NO excess and apparently my 20 and 60 are wrong too. The grader didn't explain why.

DO YOU KNOW WHY? =)

I have often wondered how subduction zones form. How does the transition from a quiet ocean floor to an active vulcanic arc (ocean-ocean subduction) occur? Or the transition from a passive continental margin to Andean type subduction zone (ocean-continent subduction). In either case one plate needs to divide into two plates and some kind of decoupling is required. How does this happen? What is the driving mechanism? And can this transitional proces be observed at present?

to climb the next foot of altitude. In order to find the number of minutes required for the airplane to ascend to 10,000 feet of altitude, we need to take the definite integral of m(h) from 0 to 10,000 ft. I'm given data to create Riemann sums, "assuming that the airplane's climb rate is never increasing, determine the best possible lower and upper estimates to the definite integral" MY QUESTION: Why do I have to assume that the climb rate is never increasing in order to make this calculation?

So - they look for HPV virus and anormalities. Now - HPV is a sexually transmitted infection so you "catch it" by having unsheathed sex with an infected partner. If I am

1) in a monogomous relationship for 2+ years and both of us are faithful
2) use condoms as my form of brith control
3) had a clear smear 2 years ago (see one above)

do I actually need another one?

Please - just take point (1) as a fact. I am able to work out the "but he might be being unfaithful" answer to this for myself! I am also intending on getting my smear done in a couple of weeks. I am just curious about this as an academic question.
