Basically the unit is an electronic nose which can sniff out refrigerant leaks and respond with a visual and aduio indication.

Using a sniffer for leak detection is done by moving the probe near fitting joints and along piping. If a small leak is present you will get a response. However larger leaks and leaks in enclosed spaces may have a high enough background concentration to blind the sniffer from locating the leak.

You will have to either vent the space of use tradition methods such as soapy water to locat the larger leaks.
