I'm tutoring a student in algebra, and one of the questions doesn't seem to work with the answer given in the answer guide.

The question is:

A person can see 72 miles to the horizon from an airplane window. How high is the airplane? Use the formula V = 3.5*SQRT(h)

The answer given is 3600 ft.

No other information should be needed (like the diameter/circumference of the earth as this is a basic college algebra class). Even trying to convert between feet and miles in different ways, I can't get the answer.

we built a bag opener like for chips...to open chips so we used pulleys and to clips but the clips arent strong enough to get pulled what do I do...we already have that built but we dont really need the clips since they dont work

Find the local linear approximation of the function
y= sqr(1+x) at x_0=0, and use it to approximate sqr0.9 and sqr1.1.

I got 1+1/2x for the linear function, but i didn't get the approximate number.
