independent, dependant, direct or indirect?

independant means there is no need to rely on outside influence (a spontaneous chemical reaction is independant), dependant means you need to rely on it (a chemical reaction that requires a catalyst or an initiator is dependant). Direct means one thing effects another with nothing interacting in between. Indirect means something happens between the two. A pool player hits the nine ball into the corner pocket by hitting it at the correct angle (direct). A pool player hits the nine ball into the corner pocket by hitting the 12 ball so that the 12 ball hits the 9 ball at the correct angle (indirect)
